Spring: MAP Testing

The Appleton Area School District requires all students in grades K-8 to participate in a test called Measure of Academic Progress (MAP). Currently, WCA uses the LEAP tests to replace this district requirement for grades 3-8. While students in grades K-2 are required to take the assessment, all other students have the option to particpate.  Students who wish to participate will take a mathematics and reading test. MAP tests are given to determine each child’s instructional levels and to measure academic growth from year to year. These non-timed tests, taken on a computer, will be offered each fall and spring. Following each testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s academic performance/growth.

MAP tests are unique in that the level of difficulty of the questions being asked of your child will vary to the level of your child’s learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. On average, it will take a child about one (1) hour to complete each test.

These tests are given in-person. Students will need to come to Appleton on May 7 to complete the assessment. If you wish to have your student participate, please email Mrs. Mueller, in Connexus, the name(s) of the student(s) and his/her grade.

The MAP test is one measure that the district and WCA uses to identify students as Gifted and Talented.   Participation is strictly optional.  Those students who choose to participate will still be required to take the LEAP/SCANTRON tests AND the state tests.
