Beginning with the graduating class of 2016-17, a high school diploma may not be granted in Wisconsin until a student has completed and passed (a score of 65 or better) the 100 question United States Citizenship Test. This exam may be taken until passed. Students identified as Limited English Proficient (LEP) may take the exam in the language of their choice.
In the Appleton Area School District, students will take the Civics Graduation Examination (a 100 question multiple choice exam) in conjunction with their required freshman American Government course. For current ninth through eleventh graders, who have not taken the test, it will be given second semester. Seniors, who have not completed the test, were assigned the test during the fall semester.
