WCA's eSports Team Update

By: Jeff LeMahieu

WCA Spring Esports-High School

Rocket League

The WCA Varsity Rocket League team will consist of three or four players.  If more than four students are interested, there will be tryouts.  If at least seven students are interested, players will be divided into two teams (Varsity and Junior Varsity).

While this will be a fun activity, joining the team is a commitment.  Monday practices will be mandatory.  Varsity matches will be held on Tuesdays and JV matches will be on Thursdays.  You can find the spring schedule on the league website.  Attendance at Tuesday/Thursday practices is optional, but recommended.  Practices will begin the week of January 25.

For both games and practices, players will need to be ready at 3:45 pm.  Most sessions will last about 60-90 minutes.  All sessions are virtual except for the state championship, which is in person on a Saturday.  Not all schools will make it to the championship round.

To participate, you will need access to Rocket League, which is free and can be played on most platforms.  You will also need to create a Discord account for team and league communication.  Team members must utilize both audio and chat within Discord to allow for effective communication.  Finally, students must be passing all courses to participate.

Please contact Mr. LeMahieu with any questions or to sign-up.  The deadline to register for the spring season is Monday, January 11.
