Helpful Tips on Scanning Documents with Your Phone

Below are some instructions on how to take pictures of work needing to be sent in and changing them to a pdf so all pages are together and in an easier format than a jpeg for teachers to read

Android device - Google Drive App (available on the Google Play Store)

  1. Open the Google Drive app.
  2.  It is best to connect this to the student’s google account so scans will save directly to their drive.  If you have more than one student/google account in the family, the app can connect multiple accounts.
  3. Choose the student account by tapping the account icon in the upper right corner and selecting or adding the account.
  4. In the bottom right, tap the plus sign.
  5. Tap Scan.  This will open the camera.
  6. Take a picture of the document you'd like to scan. Tap the checkmark to accept the photo.  If you need to redo the scan, click the arrow on the bottom that looks like a left turn. Please make sure the scan is legible!
  7. If you have multiple pages, tap the box with the plus sign in the lower left corner, and take a picture of each page, tapping the checkmark to accept each (or the arrow to redo).
  8. Once all pages are added, you can edit each page if desired (swiping left and right to view pages):
  9. Change the coloring:
    1.  Click the paint tray icon and choose the coloring that best shows the content of the page.  Choose what makes the scan the most readable!
  10. Rotate the scan: Click  the icon that has the clockwise arrow.
  11. Adjust scan area: Tap the icon that looks like a square, and drag blue corners to the desired location.  What is inside the blue border will be on your pdf.  Click “done” when satisfied.
  12. Tap the stoplight (3 dots) in the upper right corner and tap rename the scan.  Rename to your liking.
  13. To save the finished document, tap Save.
  14. Choose the account and folder to save to and tap Select.
  15. Tap Save.

Apple/iOSDevice - Notes App
  1. Open Notes and select a note or create a new one.
  2. Tap the Camera button, then tap Scan Documents .
  3. Take a picture of the document you wish to scan.
  4. Drag to adjust location of corners of scan.
  5. Tap Keep Scan.
  6. Add additional pages to scan by taking additional pictures and tapping Keep Scan.
  7. You can select individual pages (by tapping them) to adjust the crop and color, and rotate as necessary.
  8. Once all pages are added, tap Save.
  9. Tap on the title to rename to your liking.
  10. Click the “share” button in the upper right corner (it looks like a box with an up arrow coming out of the top) and choose to upload to Google Drive.  It is best to connect this to your student’s google account so scans will save directly to their drive.
  11. Specify the desired save location and tap Save here.
