Three times a year Wisconsin Connections
Academy gives students an assessment to help assess students’ academic
strengths and weaknesses in the areas of reading and mathematics. i-Ready is
the diagnostic tool that the Appleton Area School District uses for this
purpose. The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive
assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your student’s needs. Each item a
student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For
example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions,
while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The
purpose of this is not to give your student a score or grade but to determine
how to best support their learning.
During the week of October 5, a course called i-Ready Diagnostic 3
will show up on your student’s planner.
This course explains the i-Ready Diagnostic to your child. Please note that since the creation of the
course, there has been a change on how to access the assessment. Students will
need to log into ClassLink and use the i-Ready app instead of the directions in
the course. Directions on logging
into ClassLink were included in a letter mailed to you.
Below are some additional facts:
- How the student
does on the diagnostic tool will not affect grades in any course.
- Students should
take each test independently (without
help, except where noted), so that we may appropriately design
individualized instruction for your student and also measure student gains
and academic progress throughout the school year. The Diagnostic is
designed for students to get about 50% of the questions correct and 50%
incorrect to help identify their precise abilities on a range of skills.
- Each assessment
takes approximately 60-75 minutes to complete. Students should not take
both tests in one day. Try to plan different times for each subject test.
- Students must
complete both the Math and
Reading tests by October 21, 2020.
Thank you
for your continued support.
